What I Love About Georgie Jones

What do I love about Georgie Jones, my teen hero?

I love Georgie’s gumption. She displays her courage throughout the book, but we first witness her face her fear with a confidence battered by emotional attacks in the first chapter.

I like her smarts, too, which she uses to analyze each situation she confronts. Analysis and courage ultimately propels Georgie to overcome. Oh, yeah, and justifiable anger helps—in the beginning.

I love Georgie’s compassion and willingness, or need, to understand. We witness her awareness grow even more through honest self-reflection and interactions with others, especially her BFFs and mentor, Luther Andersen. This same self-honesty allows her to see where she messes up, cop to it, and self-correct.

Another thing I love about Georgie Jones is her humility, though I doubt she thinks of herself that way. I can’t help wondering if her humility is what helps her to be open to learn new things, about the possibilities of life, and herself.

Georgie’s Namesake

Great-Aunt Georgie

Georgie’s namesake is my great-aunt Georgie, who inspired me when I was a teenager. She held me and loved me through many teenage tears. Aunt Georgie taught me cool things like yoga moves and the importance of moisturizing (olive oil was her fav). I wish I had one tenth of the poise she had.

These are just a few of the many things I love about Georgie Jones. May you discover your own when you read Andersen Light: A Mystic Creek Novel. Stay tuned for publication date info!

Fiction writer and author, Tanya D. Dawson, has written a story for the young adult in all of us. Andersen Light: A Mystic Creek Novel is an atypical tale set in our everyday reality alongside an unknown world of extraordinary others. This becoming-who-you-are adventure breathes fresh air and light into the world of YA fiction, without giving up the angst or the weird. Andersen Light: A Mystic Creek Novel resonates like Harry Potter, if he was a girl who stepped into Richard Bach’s book Illusions.

Georgie Jones rescues her siblings then saves a new friend from a high school bully, but will her newly ignited strengths help her find and free her kidnapped friend?

Can lighthouse keeper and mentor Luther Andersen help Georgie regain her confidence, develop her abilities and become who she was born to be?

While Andersen Light is primarily set the fictional town of Mystic Creek, Oregon, Tanya lives with her amazing husband in the enchanting American Southwest.
